"He taught me the arts of wizardry." was his reply.
At this, a light went off in Zeke's head; part warning, part excitement.
Zeke asked, "Do you have any advice for me?"
"Advise? You could try avoiding that coiled up snake behind you for a start." the old man replied.
"Ah! That's it. Observe and be aware." replied Zeke.
The old man nodded, "Yes, it's very important to be aware of your surroundings. Now I hate to be rude but I'm quite hungry and I think it's time I went home for a bite to eat."
"Thank you Sir", said Zeke, and the two parted, Zeke continuing his journey down hill toward the nearest village.
Zeke did not know it, but the old man had been singing a powerful spell over him, a spell which would govern his future. It was not by chance that Ezekiel had found the old man.
After an hour of walking Zeke entered the village and began to look around for something interesting.
Seeing an Outdoors Sports shop he decided to go in and buy some thing he would need while on his journey.
He didn't have a whole lot of money but he knew he'd need some fishing line and a good hook.
He'd need so many more things, hook, line, an sinker was the least of it. Rope? Frodo's buddy Sam always had some rope. Matches? A gun? A frying pan? A hat? Shoes -- nice cordovan wingtips?
But alas, money is limited so he bought a couple more essentials and left the store.
As he continued down the main street of the village he noticed a minstrel singing poems to a small group of people.
He found the minstrel and his poems mesmerizing and stood there in a daze.
One of the interesting things about the man's music was that he sung the songs in multiple different languages at once.
Or, at least, everyone listening felt that they understood what he was singing about.
After half an hour of singing various different songs he suddenly stopped and asked if he could have a volunteer.
And Zeke, eager for experiencing life, quickly raised his hand.
"Ah, you there." said the man, "Come forward.".
